Act III Scene i-ii
Death and Love
Prompt A: In Scene 1, Benvolio and Mercurtio are speaking to eachother. The Capulets walk through and Tybalt starts a fight. When Romeo enters, Tybalt starts verbally attacking Romeo. Since Romeo is now married to Juliet, he cannot fight Tybalt. Angry, Mercurtio draws his sword instead of Romeo. Romeo tries to break the fight up but Tybalt stabs and kills Mercurtio and flees. When Tybalt returns, Romeo kills him. The Prince storms in and Romeo is declared exiled from Verona. If anyone sees him in the city, they must kill him.
In Scene 2, Juliet is awaiting for Romeo to come see her, when the nurse tells her what happens. At first, she makes it seem like Romeo got killed. She decides if Romeo dies, she will too. When she finds out that Tybalt has been killed and Romeo has been exiled, she is still extremely upset. She claims she'll die without a wedding night. The nurse knows where Romeo is and is going to make sure that he makes it to the wedding. Juliet gives the nurse her wedding ring.
Prompt D: After killing Tybalt in Scene 1, Romeo cries, "O, I am fortune's fool!" He means that he is extremely unlucky to be put in this position. His unluckiness to be at that place and that time got him exiled from the city. He killed Tybalt because he killed Mercurtio and is blaming fate for what happened.
