Act 3 Scenes 1-2

Banishment

Prompt C:
Why does the prince not understand that Mercutio is dead, so both sides have suffered loss, and are basically equal in their loss?
Why does Juliet not wish to simply join Romeo in banishment?
What was Tybalt going to talk to Romeo about?
Why doesn't Romeo tell his friends that he is married?
How is Romeo going to tell Juliet that he killed Tybalt?
Prompt E:

I chose this image because it represents how Romeo has been banished from Verona, and must now walk out of his home town down the path to find a new home.

  1. I think that the prince punished Romeo, because he is sick and tired of the fighting families. Even though both sides have suffered a loss he needs to punish someone, but he can't punish Tybalt, because he's dead. Also I don't think that Mercutio was officially part of the montagues, so the prince may have punished Romeo to make it even.

  2. To answer your second question I don't think that Juliet can simply just get up and leave to join Romeo. She could be shunned by her family and they would not support her choice. Also she is very young so she probably wouldn't be able to configure a plan to just get up and leave.

  3. I think that Romeo does not tell his friends that he is wed to Juliet, because he is most likely afraid that the story will travel back to his parents. If the Capulets and Montagues know that Juliet and Romeo are married, since they are from rivaling families, it would create a large brawl.

  4. I like the picture, it clearly describes how Romeo is banished. The picture also reminds me of Eminem.
