ACT 1, SCENE 1,2,3: Hatred Between Families

Prompt A:  Two servants from the Capulet start a fight with two other men from the Montague which ends up becoming a bigger fight between the two groups of people. The Prince of Verona orders these people to stop brawling. Romeo becomes distant from everyone, because he is lovesick about a girl that he claims that he will never have. Paris wants to get married to Juliet but her Lord Capulet wants to wait until she is a little older. Lord Capulet forms a bash for Juliet to fall in love with Paris.  Romeo crashes the party to find Roseline, the girl that he was lovesick for from the beginning. Juliet's mother tells Juliet that Paris wants to propose to her. Juliet's nurse tells her story from her past and about how she cut her head once. Peter comes in and announces that the guests are arriving.

Prompt B: Most people today tend not to like each other for a variety of reasons. How the servants from both sides of the families started to fight in Romeo and Juliet reminds me of how Serbia and Austria-Hungary fought in WWI. At the end, everyone was envolved in the fight and everyone had a side. In WWI, each country was seperated in allies and central powers just like how people were seperated as Capulet and Montagues. There was always that one person that wanted peace.

  1. In Prompt B, I like how you related the Montagues and Capulets to what we learn in history!! It's so true that the two families are like the Serbians and Austria Hungarians in WW1.
